We have been donating to help support students in Colima, Mexico for many years, but had never had someone come to give us so much information about Project Amigo and the amazing impact our donations have made. This year we are sponsoring two students in their last year of high school. Irving and Venus write us monthly with news about their studies and life. We wrote back with encouragement for them to do well and to, at this point, apply to college. Project Amigo has made a huge impact in this small, rural Mexican State.

Project AmigoSince 2016 our Rotary Club of Scottsdale North has been donating to PROJECT AMIGO www.projectamigo.org in the form of an annual $600 scholarship for a high school student. This enables students in west-central Mexico to continue their secondary education by paying for books, school supplies, uniforms, registration, lab fees, hot lunch, and bus money, which they would otherwise not be able to afford. These students must maintain a GPA of 8.5, do a minimum of 10 hours of monthly community service, attend a weekly homework club, and write a monthly e-mail letter to us. This past year our new student so impressed us with his first letter that we decided to donate $600 for another student. She has also written to us now. Both these young students are so appreciative and extremely conscientious! UPDATE!! We recently received this update in a letter to Donors from the Project Amigo staff. We sponsor two High School students in Colima, Mexico: Queridos Amigos, We are pleased to report that our University, High School and Junior High level Project Amigo scholars are all doing well! Our total number of students is currently nearing 200, and we still need a few more sponsors. The three hundred plus elementary school children who participate in our incentive programs are having fun and learning and growing in ways they would not have believed possible. |

Rotary Club of Scottsdale North supports RI's statement on the Ukraine Conflict
The Rotary Club of Scottsdale North supports Rotary International's statement on the Ukraine conflict #RotaryClubofScottsdaleNorth #RotaryInternational "It is a tragic and sad time for the people of Ukraine and the world. At Rotary, we are deeply concerned by the deteriorating situation in Ukraine and the escalating loss of life and humanitarian hardship there. Continued military action against Ukraine will not only devastate the region, but also risk spreading tragic consequences across Europe and the world. As one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations, we have made peace the cornerstone of our global mission. We join the international community in calling for an immediate cease fire, withdrawal of Russian forces, and a restoration of diplomatic efforts to resolve this conflict through dialogue. In the past decade, Rotary clubs in Ukraine, Russia and nearby countries have transcended national differences and have actively engaged in peace-building projects to promote goodwill and to marshal assistance for the victims of war and violence. Today, our thoughts are with our fellow Rotary members and others in Ukraine coping with these tragic events. Rotary International will do everything in its power to bring aid, support and peace to the region." Rotary International 25-Feb-2022 |

One of the bathrooms has new sub-flooring, toilet and floor, plus the entire living room has a new floor. Finally, the couple also received a gently used "new" couch.
